The morning migration

One real Wednesday of Citi Bike. Every moving dot is a bike. Black circles are stations filling up, coral ones emptying, sized by how many bikes they've gained or lost since 5 am.

What you're watching

Midtown fills up

By 10 am, 9 Ave & W 33 St by Hudson Yards has 182 more bikes than it had at 5 am. Greenwich St & Hubert St in Tribeca: 138 more.

The neighborhoods empty

W 43 St & 10 Ave loses 113 bikes by 10 am. FDR Drive & E 35 St loses 95, and E 6 St & Ave B in the East Village 90.

Then it flows back

By 7 pm, 9 Ave & W 33 St is back to +3. By midnight W 43 St & 10 Ave is at −1. The city rides its bikes in and rides them home.

Wednesday, June 3, 2026: the busiest dry midweek day of the summer, from Citi Bike's public trip data. Circles count rides only. The trucks that move bikes around aren't in it. One in three rides is drawn, in a straight line from start to end. Back to the Citi Bike map
